Russia requires Ukraine's neutrality to end the war
The Kremlin said on Wednesday that Ukraine's neutrality along the lines of Sweden or Austria is the settlement currently being discussed by Russian and Ukrainian negotiators.
"It is the option that is currently being discussed and which can be considered a settlement," Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said he saw "some hope" regarding the possibility of reaching a settlement through the ongoing negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv, to end the war.
Lavrov said, in a statement to the "RPK" newspaper, that he believed that there were already issues "the two sides are close to agreeing" on.
He pointed out that although the negotiations are difficult, there is "some hope that a settlement can be reached."
He stated that he is currently being "seriously discussed" regarding declaring Ukraine's political and military neutrality in return for security guarantees from Moscow.
The two countries are scheduled to continue negotiations via video conference technology today.
